Way Back When to NOW!!

I've just had a look through some old pics and came across my Durban July outfits....

This is my sister modeling for me. It was my first year studying fashion, also the first dress I ever made. At this stage i literally knew nothing. Used Bridal Satin (the worst thing to sew with).... The dress was suppose to represent the colours in the sky during sunset and took me about 4 days to bead (if you look closely you can see I used glass beads on the dress, the same colours as the stripes). Learnt my first ever lesson... Keep pins with you in case the dress falls apart 2 minutes before the show starts..
This dress I made for the Golden Horse Casino Race Day. It's very daring but I think it came together nicely. Learnt, my second most important lesson..... ALWAYS TAKE AN EXTRA PAIR OF SHOES TO THESE KIND OF EVENTS, INCAS THE BRAND NEW ONES U BOUGHT FOR THE EVENT DECIDES TO MITERIOUSLY BREAK!!!
My second ever Durban July. I was quite happy with the two dresses. The theme was game-play. The red and black dress is all ribbon that I had woven. It took just over 8 hours to weave 2 meters.

I had to fit bra wires in the bodice to keep it up and aside for my model (1.87m tall) dropping kg's almost hourly, i think the dress was successful.

This is one of my ultimate favourites. I had designed the dress according to an upside-down Dahlia Flower. The theme for the Durban July was "It's a blooming great day". I made the hair piece to fit the dress and used the same Raw silk that i used on the dress to cover shoes. THIS WAS FUN!!!

Also a dress from this years July. I designed it according to the Daisy flower.. It's denim with 1% stretch that I had sent in fr various washes. Model is my sister, Bianca - two years later. :)
